Whenever an AI agent gains the autonomy to act on its own, my first question as someone who works on the product side of credit is always the same: who holds the brake when money is involved?

What this design teaches credit and receivables
Because at its core, this is exactly the design that makes sense in credit and receivables. Automation can go a long way: retrieve data, cross-check information, prepare a proposal and speed up a decision. But the moment involves committing capital, signing, releasing funds or paying—that still calls for a human to hold the final decision.
Anyone working on AI agents and AI product management in financial sectors needs to design this boundary together with the use case, not as a later correction. An agent can accelerate the preparatory steps without turning an irreversible action into an automatic click.
Autonomy with accountability
In my work with structured-credit products, this is what I try to bring to the design of any automated workflow: how far should the agent decide on its own, and where do I deliberately place a stop? The AI risk matrix helps organize that reasoning around impact, reversibility and the level of control required.
It is not distrust of technology. It is understanding that speed and accountability have to move together when real money is involved. AI governance needs to make clear who is accountable for the decision, which actions require approval and how the system responds when it encounters suspicious content.
What Google is doing with Spark is a useful UX reference for anyone building AI products today: give the agent autonomy without giving up the places where the final decision needs to remain with a person.
