This week brought plenty of news about chips, pricing and new models, but what held my attention most was an essay about designing freedom for AI agents. I share below why it changed the way I think about automation in credit, followed by the rest of today’s radar.

One topic that keeps growing in conversations about automation for credit products is how far an AI agent should be allowed to act on its own. This week, I came across a text that captures the dilemma well.

They need fences—clear rules about what they can and cannot do—with real freedom inside those limits.

That makes perfect sense for people who work on credit and receivables products. Automating workflows that touch payments, sensitive data or business decisions cannot depend only on approving everything or blocking everything. The same lens belongs in AI governance. Instead of creating the same barrier for every action, a team can think about the right limit for each type of risk and connect permission to the level of trust the operation accepts. The AI risk matrix helps make that conversation explicit.

For anyone working in AI product management, this changes the product question. It is not only about deciding whether a capability works, but about designing where an agent can act on its own and where the boundary needs to be narrower.

I find this kind of discussion encouraging because it signals maturity. The conversation has moved from “can AI do this or not?” to “how do we design the right boundary for each kind of action?” That creates room for real automation in more sensitive areas, such as credit and finance, without giving up control.
